Teachable Moment (for Janna and Jessica)

So Justin has been growing this tomato plant in our backyard for the past few months. He fertilized it with special plant food and watered it everyday thinking ahead when it would bear fruit. We were excited to go out everyday to see how much it had grown. A while back Janna realized that there were tomatoes on the plant so we took time to explain to her that we have to wait for the tomatoes to be ready before we can pick them off of the plant. Well, the other day when I walked inside for a minute she picked 7 of the 8 small, tough, green tomatoes. As I was walking back out I noticed she was standing by the plant and I saw tomatoes on the ground. My heart dropped and I got,as best as I can describe it, a sick feeling in my stomach. In that moment I thought Justin is going to kill her. But behind that thought there was so much more. I was standing there looking at my child who had just given into to flesh and disobeyed her parents. At the cost of a relatively fruitless plant. Thats when I felt the Holy Spirit convicting me of my disobedience. What an illustration, I got a glimpse of what God goes through every time we give into flesh and ruin His fruit. The disappointment & physical sickness that I felt when that happened is only a portion of what God must feel when we, His children disobey or do not adhere to His written and spoken Word. That experience was both enlightening & convicting in so many ways.

I write this for a couple of reasons.
1. This was a very impactful event for me spiritually.
2. The Holy Spirit was able to speak to me in such a strong way. I haven't experienced Him in that capacity in a long time so I can't help but tell someone. I think that the reason He was able to speak to me so clearly and powerfully was because I have really challenged myself lately to read The Word more and spend more time in prayer, in that I have been so sensitive to His leading.

What does that mean for you, reader of this post?
Apart from laughing because Janna picked a bunch of green tomatoes, assuming you're a believer, Your Holy Father is waiting to teach , be intimate, love, encourage, guide, and show Himself to you everyday. Bring yourself to a place where He will come into your presence. Talk with Him, read His unchanging, eternal Word. And expect for Him to respond.

Today was just fabulous. I was introducing myself this morning to a new student and began to attempt my best at casual conversation. So after I was done asking 101 questions she asks me a question. A question that would make my day maybe even my week (yes its that good.)
scenario-
Jess: so what grade are you going to be going into?
Student: 7th, how about you what grade are you going into?
Jess: sudden overflow of joy( i feel old and run down sometimes based on what i see in the mirror, maybe my view is thwarted)

i didn't really know how to respond at first, i wanted to give a sarcastic answer that i would have thought would be funny. Then I thought to myself 1st , shes new, period. 2nd I don't think she would have appreciated the humor.

Anyways glad to share this one with you guys.

This past week has been crazy. Justin got back from super summer and then we were off to Vidalia for the day, the next day was Janna's birthday party (which was a lot of fun), and then we had the Drama/Music camp last week at church. I had so much fun with those kids along with Lily Favaron. That brings us to this week, a week of getting ready for Rebekah's 1st birthday on Saturday. I can't wait for her b-day party.

whenever you have children, peoples like to throw tons of sayings out to you that in my opinion are sheer opinion (most of them never contain facts its just something their mommas, mommas aunt told them and they feel compelled to share it with everybody else) and are cliches (is that even how you'd spell a clee shay?) One of the sayings that I have bought into and have recently started to run from is that:

"this is just a season you'll make it through it and wont last forever."

i am referring to my childrens and to be frank their exhausting lifestyle. Heres the thing. i don't want to just make it through this "season." i don't want want to say "yeah i got through those years and am glad they're over." i want to raise my children through these critically important developmental years in victory relying on my Savior to see me through. i want to walk or crawl alongside them teaching them and learning things myself about life and more importantly God. I want to be impacted in as much of a positive way as i hope i can impact them. I pray that I wake up everyday with a heart and a passion for God that would enable me to accomplish amazing things with my children and not settle with mediocre parenting. I pray that i go to bed at night rejoicing as i reflect on the day instead of bearing a heavy laden heart. Now, i know that i'm not perfect and my children aren't perfect so there will be days where the trials overcome me, but prayerfully those days are few.

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Last night Justin, Janna, Rebekah, and i went to the best wedding reception i have ever been to. the food was great, we got to meet some new people and talk with them but the best part was the band. They came out dressed as 80's icons. it was great. They were an 80's tribute band and they were really good. I have this personal love of 80's music so it was so much fun and their costumes only added to the night. Janna danced for about 1 1/2 hours straight she liked them to. Their band name was great The Molly Ringwalds, i have to say it suited them. thanks Shawn and Kristen for inviting us to share in that special night for you guys.

Thursday night dream

So thursday night i had a pretty interesting dream.

I start off at some kind of hunting camp with Scott and Justin and i am angry with justin so i just walk off on my own, then somebody starts escorting me to a conference type facility. First, she takes me into this huge auditorium. So I choose a seat that i think no one will notice me in because i get the feeling that there will be picking and choosing from this room. I just so happens that I sit down next to another girl that escorts me out of the huge auditorium into a smaller one, when I ask her why we're leaving all she says is they are'nt happy with the numbers. I get into the smaller auditorium and pass by some familiar faces amongst other people sitting in a specific section with guards all around them. I walk just in front of them and sit across the aisle. A few moments later as i am trying figure out what is going on they tell us to move down to the floor, so i go down and take a seat beside this russian woman. Whenever i sit down someone on the intercom tells us this is our last chance to leave and take a seat with the guarded group. I turn to the russian woman to ask her whats going on and she replies, "Ishmael is telling those people who don't believe in him and his teachings to leave." What!!! I look over and a man that resembles Hitler is walking down to our group of about 20 people, he seems to be "Ishmael." As my dreams ends i am sitting in my chair thinking if i get up i will be martyred and if i don't i will have denied my savior. I woke up just after that thought. this has got to be the most intense dream i have ever had. Feeling the pressure in the dream i had made me appreciate the freedom i have to serve my God without the threat of martyrdom, but i don't know maybe one day "Ishmael" will rise to power. just kidding. unless i'm a prophetic dreamer. ok, just kidding.

Yesterday I took Janna and Rebekah for a walk in the stroller(thanks Mrs. Julie) around the apartment complex. When we came to about the end our walk Janna found the sand volleyball court and proceeded to make snowmen and play in the snow. I thought it was hilarious but as a parent, I felt compelled to quickly teach her the difference between sand and snow.

side note: when typing this blog I accidentally typed fir instead of for.

Lately Rebekah has been sleeping a consistent 6-7 hours at night but last night she slept for a beautiful 9 1/2 hours straight. What could make that better; well, Janna didn't wake up until 8 herself, so I got some sleep.

38 weeks

38 weeks today and we can't wait for the baby to come. every night i hold my breath before bed wondering if tonight will be the night. with my luck this one will come late just like Janna. oh well God knows when baby should come and has it in his hands, I'm thankful for that. It would just be a little easier if the baby would come early seeing as how Justin has made it clear that he really wants us at the labor day dove hunt in Newellton (town 4 hours away from here), and he also likes for me to be out in the field so he can have an extra limit of doves to shoot (i am not too good with a shotgun).

Weekend in Houston

Justin and I spent this weekend in Houston. We had a relaxing weekend that allowed us to spend time together. It was nice to get away from everything that has been going on even if it was only for a couple of days. i started to miss Janna so much toward the end but i'm glad we got to go. it's going to be the last trip we go on together for a while as we anticipate baby #2.

I experienced something last week that i didn't think i would experience for a very long time. my mom passed away at Lafayette General last Tuesday night at 6:30. She started feeling bad the tuesday prior to that but we were going to wait for her MRI which was scheduled for last monday to see what was going on but my dad had to bring her to the emergency room last Sunday. I met him there as soon as he told me he was bringing her b/c if my parents were going to the hospital i knew something had to be wrong. They put her on an IV and ran some tests. that was the longest five hours that we spent in the emergency room. my mom was so restless and wanted to get up. The next morning the doctor gave us news that was hard to put it mildly. The cancer that started off in my mom's breast spread back to her liver and it was too late. she was already having liver failure. By monday morning my mom slipped into a coma and wouldn't wake up again. By tuesday night her liver and kidneys failed and she passed on. it has been a very hard week since then as i've tried to grasp all of this. It still seems so surreal. As hard as all of this has been, it has been easier than i ever imagined it to be. As i watched my mom take her last breath i felt an immense rush of peace which was beautiful. At that point i remember thinking my mom was imminent about beating her cancer and even in death she still has the victory. prayers are still greatly needed for my dad, my sister, and myself as we adjust to a world without my mom.

Now that i am too fat in the belly area to lean over and put my child down in her crib to go to sleep, Justin was most awesome enough to take the front rail off of Janna's crib converting it into a daybed. the first night was nothing short of hilarious. she slept fine that was not a problem at all, so when 8:30 rolled around i was a little nervous and peeped i to check on her. when i looked in she wasn't in her bed, so i looked around her room thinking i didn't hear her wake up. I still couldn't find her. at this point my heart dropped, not but a second after i saw something move from under Janna's bed and sure enough it was her. she crawled under her bed and fell asleep. i laughed for a while on that one.

dieting and pregnant

can those two words go together. i didn't think so, but apparently they can. here's a warning for those of you who will carry children one day. doctor's like to torture you.
at about 28 weeks you have to take a glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. it is a 1 hour test where you fast the night before, you go in they prick you with a needle check your blood sugar levels. then you have to drink an extremely sugar fruit drink which is disgusting, did i mention its a pint of drink and you have to drink it in 5 minutes. but don't worry you'll enjoy that because you'll be so thirsty from not having anything to eat or drink from the night before. then you sit in the waiting room for an hour and wait to be pricked again.
unfortunately for me my sugar levels came back high so i was fortunate enough to have to take the 3 hour test. heres the rundown on that morning of torture.

12 midnight- no more to eat or drink until the test is completed. (this includes water)
8:30 am- scheduled appointment
8:45 am- still waiting outside for someone to open the lab
10 am- i FINALLY see a nurse who draws a tube of blood from my left arm. then she gives me the drink, which is gone in about 30 seconds, and to the waiting room for an hour.
11 am- the nurse draws another tube of blood from my left arm and to the waiting room for another hour.
12 pm- the nurse calls me back to draw another tube of blood from the same arm. ( my arm is a little sore about now), and back to the waiting room for another hour.
1 pm.- i have my last tube of blood drawn thankfully from my other arm.
1:30 pm- i eat something for the first time since midnight the night before.(thank you Justin for the whole shrimp poboy, bag of chips and 3 glasses of water.)

anyone see a problem with this:
problem 1: this may not sound like much but to have someone stick your arm with a needle 4 times and draw 4 tubes of blood all within a 5 hour period, its not pleasant.
problem 2: its hard enough to wait 13 hours and not eat or drink anything when your not pregnant, try it when your 61/2 months pregnant.
problem 3: i was at the hospital for 5 hours in the waiting room.
problem 4: all of this happened because some hospital worker wasn't responsible enough to open the lab and have printer paper there to check people in.

lets just say i've never been so bored, mad, and physically weakened all at the same time.

Problem 5: for the rest of my pregnancy i am on a sugar free, low carb diet. (thank God i only have 9 weeks left.)

Graduation

Graduation went great. the ceremony was pretty boring but i still had a good time. As i was walking in for the processional when i made eye contact with my parents my mom started crying and then i shed some tears of happiness myself. I love the feeling of knowing my parents are proud of me and its even better when they don't have to say a word and i still know. my parents also had a crawfish boil for me after so that was most wonderful. they did such a great job setting everything up.

So I have been told by many people that you gain a lot more weight during pregnancies following your first. But i have not been experiencing that at all. i'm 25 weeks now and i've only gained 7 pounds. maybe it will change but as for right now i don't see it. maybe its chasing after Janna that is keeping my weight down.

3 glorious weeks left of school. i don't think i can take it. To make it even better I only have Tues/Thurs classes so I've only got 4 classes left plus finals. Hallelujah! It is going to be strange for me to be out of school for so long. Oh well i guess i'll have Janna and baby #2 keeping me busy enough.

i really like listening to talk radio. today AFR had an interesting topic involving how liberal we are letting laws get in the US. a part of their point was in saying that we as a nation over time said it was ok for girls/women to have abortions and its ok for teenage boys to get as many condoms as they want from school health clinics without parental notice. so i was thinking it sounds like we are letting our teenagers play in the street. yep thats the analogy that came into my head while driving to pick up Janna. They are just playing, like a toddler would play in the street not completely understanding the repercussions of their actions. We are letting our children play on a very dangerous street where the cars are driving at speeds these teens can't grasp and they don't make exceptions as to whom they hit.

in response to a past blog about my phone and illegitimate charges on my phone bill: i went to a cingular store and they were of course no help they told me i have to call customer service. so i call and finally i get a representative who knows something b/c she worked in the technical department before customer service. apparently all I've had to do for the past few months is send a reply message to the third party vendor telling them to stop and thats how i unsubscribe and get rid of the $13/month charge. so i had my chance to test it out the other day and it worked, hallelujah. not long after my response i received another text message saying i successfully unsubscribed to hiphop.

so last week i had 2 tests on Tuesday and a major presentation on Thursday. This may or may not sound like a lot to you but you have to take into consideration what the last two weeks of my life have been like. Janna has been sick, she finally got well yesterday and Justin's Mimi passed away on the 10th, so i was in Houma for as long as i could be. all of this doesn't really leave much time for studying but somehow, thank you Jesus, i got a 106 on my novel and short fiction test. i don't know how i pulled that off.

My mom found out yesterday that the cancer she has on her brain is still there so she will have to start chemotherapy again next week. She also has to start taking steroids again which is the worst part of all of it for her. she could really use a lot of prayer during this time.

I received the monthly phone bill from cingular today and was once again very upset with what I saw. I get this terrible feeling kind of like the hulk where I want to flex some muscle (muscle that i don't have by the way). Every month there is an extra charge of 12.96 for some download that never existed. So every month i call the stupid customer service number and they assure me that the money will be credited. And they do, but I am tired of getting these charges for things that i didn't download. The last representative i talked to said that m-qube (spawn of satan) does it for promotion so he kindly offered to block my internet capability. Thanks but no thanks buddy, there was another charge this month. Raar. Does anybody know how to fix this. PERMANENTLY.

I received an email today which saddened my heart. It was from the housing department at Southwestern and included a detailed description of what would be our new home only we decided it would be best to have the baby in Louisiana. So Ft. Worth you will have to wait a while longer.

I have been struggling with something for the past couple of weeks. At a time where I should be nothing less but overjoyed, I feel burdened and tired. Justin and I made what I thought was a final decision about moving to Ft. Worth based on God's purpose, but now I don't know. Lately God has been repeatedly teaching me lessons about planning out my life or my inability to. He has shown me that I can't plan life and that He is in control and things that I think are steady can change at the drop of a hat. I have over-analyzed my current situation to the point where I feel lost. All I do is worry and try to fix. But I can't. God has broken me in the past couple of days and the only hope that I have is to lean completely on Him in everything that I do. For me, this is so hard because the problem that I face is life-changing. We can go the right way(God's way) or the wrong way(our way). What's my biggest problem? Which way is God's? I can't tell, as much as I want to, I can't. God all I need is an answer, all I need is some direction as to where we will be in 4 months.

Unfortunately, I had some last minute scheduling conflicts which forced me to drop my easy A's for the semester and add a slightly more difficult class. Easy Shopping is Back Again

I don't know if many of you are aware of the controversy that the Wal-mart corporation has caused in the past few weeks. Wal-mart had been showing obvious support to Homosexual Marriage Groups. They made very large donations to these groups, large enough to spike interest in the pro-family side. I felt that I did not want our dollars going to knowingly support something that my beliefs didn't back up, so Justin and I stopped shopping at Wal-mart. Oh it was so sad for me. But, there is good news, Wal-mart has has made a statement saying that they will remain neutral in this issue and no longer financially support the homosexual movement. Yeaa I have my Wal-mart back. Course shopping at Target for some things wasn't so bad.

I have a psyc paper due on the 8th and i love the topic b/c i got to choose it but i am struggling with finding the time to research and write it.

Jacque, general tso and Scott you all have a point.

Our government does put more and more restrictions on our lives as the years go by but that is because our standards change from decade to decade. We gradually desensitize ourselves, as Americans, to the "deviant" if you will. If 60 or 70 years ago the rate of abortions and marriage protection were not an issue then why are they now. Society has become more liberal in its beliefs so we are arguing about the life of a child or the definition of marriage. The US population has desensitized itself as a whole to the deviant in the past and found new things to point the finger at. It looks like we are at a stage where the "rule makers" are trying to make a transition again.

To illustrate this point I feel it necessary that I mention the movie Demolition Man. If you have ever seen this Sylvester Stallone movie then you know exactly what I am refering to, if not you should see the movie, it is quite entertaining.

The basic storyline is that in the future society will have put so many restrictions on the people that the only fast food restaurant that is still legal is Taco Bell. You have to have a license to get married and have children. You are cited for using foul language. The idea is that anything that is bad for you is illegal.

The movie is a perfect example of Scott, Jacque, and general tso's thoughts.

We will continue to make laws to improve the quality of life, but we will always search to find something to deviantize others with.

Hello all..

Happy first day of Fall!!

The most wonderful time of all.

Ok thats a little much. :)

This is my favorite season because of the coolness the air brings (eventually), the colors, and my desire to start baking always remerges around this time of year.
I love the conversations because Justin's family begins talking about opening day, what kind of deer there will be on the lease, and everything hunting. I have never seen such a deep passion of something passed down and infiltrated through a family.

Today I purchased a Bible. Thanks to the help of fellow bloggers, I had a good idea of what i was looking for. Then as i was browsing the Bible row at BAM i saw it: a parallel bible. the bible written in the New American Standard and The message version all in one bible. The two versions run parallel, hence the name, to each other. So basically what i am trying to get at is i got two bibles in one. Another thing i like about the parallel bible is that i can compare translations very easily because they are side-by-side. Awsome find!

I have been faced with a predicament. My Bible has recently fallen apart, all of the pages have come unbound. This bums me out because I have so many things marked in my current Bible that won't be marked in whatever Bible i choose to buy. I am taking a CMCN class this semester(public speaking). Our first assignment was to write and give a personal introductory speech. Part of the speech included talking about a life experience.

I was caught completely off guard when one of the girls got up and talked about a God-centered supernatural experience. She talked about how God saved her from an accident and then went on to say how Jesus loves each of us and He is willing to save us too. Wow. This blew me away. Little did I know that the suprises weren't going to stop there. On the second day of speeches a guy got up and gave his TESTIMONY, yes i said testimony, as his life experience. I never thought I would hear someone stand up in front of a classroom of about 30 students and give their testimony and say where God is continuing to lead them.

Praise God for believers who aren't ashamed!

Ahh Louisiana's education system

I found out a couple of days ago that i only have to take 10 hours to graduate in the spring, which got me very excited. Then, today it dawned on me, i have to be registered for at least 12 hours to receive my scholarship which pays for my tuition. Man, i have to take an extra class, "extra work", just for money.

I love i,t they could just let me take my 10 hours and subtract the proportionally equivalent of the unused money out of the scholarship and save themselves some money, but no, that would seem too logical for the great state of Louisiana.

There is something good to come from this unfortunate mishap. The 2 hours that get me to my 12 hour minimum are just that 2 hours to use for whatever I want. Can we say easy A. To add on to this positive notion, i will use my 2 hours in basic scuba. yes i said scuba.

What will i need this for you ask? Justin's parents are planning on doing a family trip to Florida next year where we will have the option to go diving if we want. I will already be certified. Thanks for paying Louisiana!
